This winter was a "rough" one for El Paso. More snow events (I refuse to call them storms) than almost any winter in recorded history, and more than average chilly wet days. The reward we reap up here in Northeast El Paso from a wet winter, is a unbelieveable display of poppies completely coating the Castner Range of the Franklin Mountains (which it is my great privilege to drive along anytime I go out)! There have been pockets visible here and there for a month or two, but in the last few days as the weather has finally been spring-ish, the mountainside is awash with gold. As are the zeroscape rocks along the sidewalks and divides in the road.
I have tried a few times to get pictures, but the best I've been able to do has been from inside a moving car... so not great. I did find these pictures online which capture very well what we are seeing.

For those who are local, there is a festival to celebrate the poppies Saturday march 20 at the museums off of transmountain as you head up into the pass. It is free, and they promise good stuff there. Parking is at Diablo's stadium, and they shuttle you to the festival.

Can they wait until next Saturday and keep it open really late?
Will they still be going strong next week, from a photo standpoint this appears to be a once in a lifetime deal.
