So, I think I have a black thumb. Things die around me... batteries, bugs (this is not on accident), and more specifically, all plants. Fortunately, this hasn't extended to humans and other mammals. Our front garden was planted all lovely with annuals when we moved in last summer, and it has steadily declined into basically what you see below. I tested the waters with a petunia here and there earlier this year to see how they would fare. Not surprisingly, they died! The ones that didn't have a chance to die yet, I transferred back to pots.
I refuse to accept defeat, though, and this past Saturday (since I finally had Mike around for manual labor) I headed up a trip to Lowe's where we got everything we would need for doing a garden the right way. It took a lot, physically, to get the top soil mixed in and holes dug, because we have very clay-y soil... it was like breaking pottery, seriously. Hopefully it all pays off! I've read up on all the plants we chose and reeeally hope that they grow successfully! I picked some japanese boxwoods (evergreen!) and long blooming perennials so we won't have to do it all over again next year! When they grow in and get to their mature sizes, it should look really nice.
