Snow. . . yay. . .

We've had a little bit of snow the last few days, which marks the beginning of the long dark winter.  Hopefully it will be our last for a nice long while (but we'll find out about that Dec. 17).

On Monday when it had snowed overnight, I told Megan to go look out the window.  She ran to the living room and did a little gasp when she saw the snow.  I said, "what do you see out there on the ground?"  and she said, "It has winter on it!"

Monday night we went out as a family to run some errands.  While we were out, it was snowing a decent amount, and there was even some lightning and thunder.  On the way back home we hit some seriously scary road conditions... it came out of nowhere, because though it had been snowing most of the day, it was still above freezing so most of it didn't stick, and the stuff on the pavement simply melted.  Then when it got dark, everything froze.  So we found ourselves having to coast home the last 3 miles, because if we went any faster, we wouldn't be able to stop.  A few times we did slide off the road, but thankfully didn't damage the car, and there was practically no one on the road.  There were a few moments when we really weren't sure if we would be able to make it back to our house, because the roads were so slippery and there were a few steep hills.  To add to the beauty of the situation,  we were driving up woodland in midtown cleveland, and for anyone who knows this stretch of road, you know that the whole route is littered with SLOW jaywalkers, walking diagonally across the road wherever they please.  I'm amazed we didn't hit any of these idiots.  We seriously could not have stopped if we had to.

So, after the scariness of last night, I'm happy to stay home today (even though the roads are fine now).  Megan and Robby and I have been having a very cozy day playing inside.  It feels so Christmasy right now that I put some good "christmas smells" on the stove (I'll give that it's own post later), and was mightily tempted to put on some Christmas music.  But there seems to be some unofficial law that says you can't listen to Christmas music before Thanksgiving.  I'm a little more willing to bend that rule than some others are though... for crying out loud some people treat listening to Christmas music before December like premarital sex or something.

Snow on Monday morning
Robby checkin' it out.  He's probably thinking, "wow, this reminds me of my childhood!"

Our tree is up and we've been singing along to Christmas toons for the past week. Not one regret! You're totally missing out!
