The results are in...

... and I am the proud wife of a future Army Anesthesiologist, to be trained initially for one year at William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, TX; then to receive his clinical anesthesia training at SAUSHEC in San Antonio.

I believe internet geeks have a word for a situation like this, and the word is W00T!

Mike is happy.  It feels good to work your knuckles to the bone and then be affirmed that yes, your best was in fact good enough.  He was so worried that he would not match.  There are many benefits to doing medical school on a military scholarship, but one huge drawback is that there is no guarantee you will be able to just go straight through with your training.  So it is a big relief to have this continuous 4-year contract.  I am just glad we are in the Army, where only ~30% aren't able to train straight through, versus AF & Navy who have a much higher percentage, and much fewer training options.

Getting the match result we were hoping for was the culmination of thousands and thousands of hours of really hard work. Hundreds of times when he would rather have been doing something much more fun with the family.  Dozens of textbooks underlined, highlighted, read and re-read.  Countless prayers, middle-of-the-night pep talks from me, and calls to his Mom & Dad when I couldn't take it anymore... and one super smart dedicated hard working guy who is now on the final stretch of realizing his lifelong dream.

Wow! Tell Mike way to go! I bet you'll really enjoy the warmer weather down there. You'll be leaving the snow behind!
