Today Mike graduated from his internship! Mike is happy to never have to be an intern again, but it still doesn't seem like that big of a deal! Haha, some of the other guys have been calling today "kindergarten graduation." Still, it was a nice ceremony. It was for more than just the interns, all the residents who are now becoming attendings were also being honored. Everyone got to get all dressed up in their blues (I hate the blues as compared to the green Class A's, and you will see why in a moment). The commander of the medical corps was here as the special guest speaker and her remarks were very good, and brief. The graduation ceremony was held in the ft bliss museum, so we're sitting there in folding chairs surrounded by old infantry machines... it was kind of funny. There was daycare provided for the kids, and some refreshments afterwards... and I got to sit with all my friends, so it was a good morning! Afterwards we all met up at Rudy's for some BBQ.
"I'll take one of those..."
"...and one of these..."
I asked Robby afterward what his favorite part was, and he said it was the cake.
Megan was happy once she got some cake, too. As you will see below, this was not always the case.
Their "staging area" was really dark, so none of the pictures turned out very well. This was the best I could get of the Transitional Year interns. Here is why I don't like the dress blues... the pants do not match the jacket! They are totally different shades of blue. Now, I hardly consider myself a fashionista, and heaven knows I frequently don't 100% match... but when you are designing a uniform to be worn at the most formal of occasions, with rigorous standards for the placement and orientation of every little pin, button, tuck, and fold... you would THINK they would get the Mr. McFeely pants to match the flight attendant jacket! The girls are so lucky they can wear the skirts, because THEY match! *end rant*
This was the best family picture we could manage. Megan did not get an adequate's night sleep before it was time to wake her up and head out. As you saw above, though, the cake cured her woes.
Well, congratulations, Mike! You are practically officially a CA-1 (That stands for clinical anesthesia resident, year 1)! Great job this year-- it was mighty sweet and mighty rough and now it's over!

Congrats! It is important to celebrate every step in the process.
Candy or some kind of treat changes the focus and makes for smiles in a picture.
