New Camera

Mike's parents are taking us all on a big Disney World trip at the end of April, and Papa Nort wanted to make sure that we all had cameras up to the task of capturing all the disnocity. Our current camera is does a passable job, but it is getting older (my parents gave it to us as a wedding present 5-1/2 years ago). My biggest beef with it is that the indoor pictures I take turn out terribly because if I use the flash it makes the foreground far too bright and the background far too dark (and it's not my photography skills to blame either, because it didn't used to do that!), and if I don't use the flash the camera just doesn't have the ISO power to stop the pictures from being totally blurry, even on a tripod.
Anyway, Papa Nort bought us all new cameras, since nobody else was truly in love with theirs, either! Our new camera came yesterday, and so I have been monkeying around with it and LOVING the fact that I can take picture without a flash (I the way the colors turn out with a flash) indoors. So here are some of my test shots of random things... we haven't had any super photographical moments since the camera came, so ignore the unexciting subject matter.

Practicing focusing on the foreground

Just a picture of Megan in the dim kitchen during the evening

Testing out the flash on Megan (Megan usually turns out okay with the flash on, it's Robby that looks not so cute. The flash always flattens out his head and makes his face look really fat)

Another nice feature of this camera is that I can catch a shot a lot faster than our old one... if this had been with our other camera I would've missed the smooch

This was just a random shot with the flash to see how it affected the colors... to explain the subject matter, we made these felt board/white boards for a craft night, and Megan and I were playing a game where I draw place or an activity and she has to guess what it is. Kind of like pictionary for 3-year-olds. So this is a picture of family prayer... guess which one is Robby?

Testing out some close-up food shots. Mmmm... I'm ready for some leftovers!

One odd thing about the camera I haven't figured out yet... I took this picture horizontally, but when I was looking at it on the camera afterwards, I angled the camera for some reason, and the image flipped vertically... like it has a sensor or something. Only, I didn't want it to flip over... anyway, when I look at it on the computer it is horizontal, but when I load it on here it is vertical. Whatever.

Last but not least... a handsome man! In case he looks younger and more svelte to you, that's because he's been dieting and lost 25 lbs! Woo woo!

So thanks to Papa (and Nana, for letting him) for the new camera! You are already way too generous just taking us to WDW!
