House Hunters: San Antonio

Hello! And welcome to this episode of "House Hunters" San Antonio edition!

We left on our trip to find a house in San Antonio, kids and Nana in tow early Wednesday morning. It was about an 8 hour trip, all told. Thursday morning we met with the realtor to start looking at houses, and had a full day of it. But after one day of house-hunting, I was a bit dis-heartened at our prospects. Of the top 5 or so homes that I really thought would be just right for us (having seen the listings before we left for S.A.), there were 4 under contract by the time we got there. The real estate market is alive and well in San Antonio, as we found out! Day two, I was just finding any old listing that seemed like it would do, figuring that if nothing worked we'd just have to find something in July when we move, and be transient for a little while. As it turned out two of those listings were homes we really liked.

One had close to the ideal floor plan for me (including a guest bed room and full bath downstairs), and an amazingly beautiful kitchen. It also had real wood floors throughout the downstairs, and a really neat jack-n-jill bath between the two secondary bedrooms upstairs... but it needed some work and some updates (carpet in the bathroom!), and the only word to describe the yard was Jumanji (which was really sad, because the pictures from when it was listed showed a GORGEOUS back yard). Mike didn't like the house as much as I did.

The other house was 12 years newer, had some things about the floor plan I didn't like (master bed is down), it has only a tiny little porch, and the kitchen is just 'meh.' But it was totally immaculate, ready to move-in, no real updates required. The fixtures had all been updated, and there were lots of little subtle decors that were all part of an overall "TEXAS!!" theme to the house. It also had an 18'x22' family/game room upstairs, with the 3 other bedrooms, bathroom, and the laundry room. It was also 15K less than the other house, and was walking distance to the elementary school (which was a higher rated school than the other house's) and had a neighborhood park/pool/clubhouse.

So, you "House Hunters" fans... which one did we choose?

**pregnant pause**

We chose the TEXAS house! We made an offer that same day (Friday), and it was accepted and signed by Monday. Yee-haw! Our closing date is currently set for the very beginning of June, and we will need to be there by July 7 at the latest. There are a few little updates we plan to do, such as pouring more patio, and re-painting the cupboards in the kitchen... but overall it is ready for us! We are excited!

The scrolling down to find out which house you picked was torture! So exciting. Good luck with the move and can't wait to see pics, or shall I saw videos :), once you move in.
