Signs of spring

Sunny days, 50 mph winds, and birds roosting in my planter... ah, spring!

I peeked out my bedroom window this morning, and noticed two birds (doves? I know Dad will tell me what they really are...) building a nest in the planter just inside the porch. We peeked in the nest when it was vacant this afternoon to see if there were any eggs, but there weren't any... yet!

Those birds must've flipped when they saw this thing... how perfect is that? And just in time for the homebuyer's tax credit!

This uber-nest is like a duplex with a vacancy!

So then after dinner, I saw the momma sitting on the nest, and as I snuck closer to get a picture, she flew away. I took the chance to peek in the nest, and.... voila!!

Megan and Robby are so excited about the birds and their egg... and it was so perfect because after we discovered the nest this morning we went to the library story time where the theme was (dun dun dun!) "birds in spring!" They even made a little craft of baby birdies in a nest.

This might sound dumb, but how long does it take for a bird egg to hatch? Hopefully it will happen before you guys leave!

Those are Mourning Doves. It takes 13-14 days for the eggs to hatch.

I had a dove walk right up to me on Tuesday. We were both a little surprised, but it didn't fly away. It just turned around and walked away.
