Let's play catch-up, yes? Here is what we have been up to...
-Mike is two days away from being finished with Internal Medicine for the REST OF HIS LIFE! HALLELUJAH! (He hates it, in case you couldn't tell.) He finished his last 30 hour shift for that service last week. He has taken his Step 3 of the USMLE, and we are waiting waiting waiting for the results (4 weeks of waiting! Agh!). I am confident that he passed, though he isn't so sure. That's how these tests go.
-Our Cornwell family (the ones that love us enough to visit, anyway) came to visit last week and we had a lot of fun, and are grateful they were willing to drive all the way to see us! It is most assuredly the last time they ever will, as the next time we get a visit they will probably fly... which brings us to...
-San Antonio! We are moving there in less than 3 months. Next week we are taking 5 days to drive out there, house hunt, and hopefully make an offer on our first home! I'm very excited, and also very nervous about finding the right place for us. Actually, more nervous that the right place for us will slip away before we get to see it! We have 10-12 homes that we hope to make our final selection from.
-The kids are growing good and fast... I see progress in Robby mellowing out into more of a human than a walking bee's nest. For example, it used to be that we just couldn't get him to hold still for a family prayer or keep him from eating during the blessing on the food... now he will sit still, fold his arms, and even reminds us to pray over meals if we haven't yet. One time, we just happened to be all sitting on the floor in the living room, and Robby folded his arms and started to pray! So cute! He also now follows orders, and responds to the "threatening count." You know... "1... 2.... 2 1/2..." It takes me saying "2" for him to turn around and stop whatever the naughtiness, but he does it! He also talks in complete, mostly coherent sentences most of the time, and it still cracks me up to think that woah-- he's a real person!
Megan and I (and Robby) had been participating in a preschool co-op through the Fort Bliss homeschooling group for the past 10 weeks, but the semester has recently ended. The curriculum included handwriting lessons which I can already see have made a positive effect! This is probably the only academic benefit she gained from the preschool, since she already knows how to read... but the social benefits were great for her and she just LOVES anything having to do with school. Speaking of her reading abilities (which I don't know WHERE they came from, because I honestly did not make an overt effort to teach her to read when she was only 3 years old...), I administered some reading, phonics, and comprehension tests to her in order to gauge where exactly her abilities were, and 4 independent tests all placed her as independently reading at a 3rd grade level, and that she is ready for instruction at a 4th grade level. Yikes! Can you believe she won't even start kindergarten for a year and a half? On other fronts, she is getting very good at riding her bike and loves to exercise in the backyard and have me time her doing different things. She is getting very excited to move to San Antonio, because she will get her own bedroom! We'll see what her brother has to say about that, though. If she isn't within his field of vision at all times, he is asking, "where is my Megan?"
So that's what we've been up to in a (big) nutshell!

When you were Robby's age we moved you into your own room. You didn't like it very much. You would get up every morning and say, "Where's Michele?"
