Saturday morning we went to a little community easter egg hunt. There were some fun little things to do! Megan and Robby got to meet McGruff (you know, take a bite out of crime?)...
and the easter bunny! Megan astonished me with how much she liked the Easter bunny... she kept wanting to go back and talk to the bunny.
Robby didn't know what the deal was with all those life-sized stuffed animals walking around...
But he really like the Alpacas that were there. He kept pointing at them and smiling really big while saying, "doggie! doggie!"
I didn't catch any picture of the egg hunting, but it really wasn't so much a hunt as a "gathering." The kids got to walk into a little pen that had eggs scattered all over, and were allowed to pick out three (I thought they were empty, but it turned out they had stickers inside). Then as they exited they got a bag with some fun stuff in it (coloring books, sucker, cookie, easter egg antenae headband, etc) and they got to pick out a prize egg, that had a piece of paper inside that said what sort of prize they could pick (there were little stuffed animals and other knick-knacky toys out on a table). Well Megan struck gold BIG with her prize egg... she picked out on of the "golden egg" prizes, which for her was this:
it is a double sided magna-doodle, and on the back it has a chalkboard with a little compartment to hold chalk and an eraser. She LOVES it, and has been having so much fun with it since she got it.After the egg hunt (where it was completely freezing and muddy, by the way!) Alex & Laurie treated us to lunch at the local hot dog shoppe, where Megan picked at some french fries and Robby devoured everything in sight.

... that boy sure loves his Aunt Laurie!Sunday morning we got up bright and early for the Maple Syrup Festival! There were all-you-can-eat pancakes, with the fresh maple syrup tapped from the trees at the park. The lines are notoriously LOOONG, so we got there first thing and only had to wait about 15 minutes.

At the festival there were a lot of craft booths and things like that. Megan got to pick out one item for us to buy for her. She immediately saw this $1 plastic trumpet that she really really wanted. We made her look at all the booths before she could decide, and at the end she asked, "can I have my trumpet now?" So that's what she picked out! Robby got a train whistle, that he can't make work. I'm okay with that. She also got her face painted, and Aunt Laurie & Aunt Julie got her a cute little care bear necklace.
Here Megan is with her Easter basket that the Easter Laurie filled for her on Saturday night. She came down in the morning to find a bucket full of treats and surprises! Robby did too, and they love all the sweet surprises their thoughtful Aunt left for them.
After everyone in the house had a nice satisfying nap in the afternoon, the kids played outside. It warmed up to where is was really nice to be out. And the best part of being outside was when Laurie gave Robby and Megan tractor rides on the riding lawn mower! Robby didn't know what to think, but Megan was lovin' it! She even got to steer!
When it was time to go, Robby was very sad. He had such a good time playing with his uncle Alex and Aunt Laurie that he cried and cried when we got in the car and drove away. We had a fantastic and full weekend, and we are going to miss our trips out to Pittsburgh a lot when we leave for Texas!
