Cleveland Orchestra at Public Square

Last night we went downtown to the free Cleveland Orchestra concert and fireworks show.  I had been wanting to go for a long time, but I was waffling and yesterday afternoon I just decided that I didn't want to go... I was stressing about parking, the crowds, the kids being up so late and freaking out (bedtime is 7:30, the concert started at 9, fireworks at 10), finding a potty for Megan if she needed to go... etc.  But Mike was the good man that he is and said, "nope! We're going!" I'm glad he did, because we ended up having a great time!
They had event parking at tower city for only $4 (so cheap!), we found a spot right on the square in front of tower city, Robby just ate his dinner, got in his PJs and fell asleep in the stroller, and Megan was very good!  She played on the blanket with stickers and colored pencils, and danced to the music by the pre-orchestra musical groups.  It just so happened that our little "spot" was just around the corner from some porta-potties, so Megan got to be intiated into the concept of the out-house. She was very disturbed that she couldn't flush.
The concert was very good, and they lit up tower city with different colored lights for the different songs/composers.  Sometimes the lights even danced to the beat of the music! It was very cool, and even if Megan didn't care about the music, she liked the lights.

There was a soprano that joined up with the orchestra to sing on a few pieces.  She had a very beautiful voice, but Megan obviously hasn't acquired and ear for opera, because she turned to Mike and said, "She's making funny noises."
The most memorable part of the event happened halfway through the fireworks display... it started POURING rain. It had felt like it might rain most of the evening, but we got off without a drop.  Suddenly we started feeling a few little raindrops... and we started packing up our stuff like mad.  Then it just started pouring.  People were totally scattering ... I don't think anybody saw the finale of the fireworks!  Despite the rain and the mad-dash to get into tower city, Megan was still leaning around in her stroller to watch the fireworks show, which she LOVED.  The smile on her face when it started was priceless.  It probably took 10 minutes to get inside, even though we were so close, there were thousands and thousands of people trying to get through the same doors we were.  Poor Robby, who had slept through the entire concert and fireworks, woke up in the pouring rain. At first I thought someone was setting off piccolo petes... then I realized it was piccolo Robby having woken up.  He was so sad!  It was so sad.  It was so loud and disorienting outside trying to get in, we didn't know he had woken up at first.   Some how we eventually made it in and to the parking garage, where by some complete dumb-luck, we were able to pull right out (even though there were lines and lines of cars already there waiting), and we hit the road and took a backway out to the highway and got home within 15 minutes!  It was great!
So, we had a fun adventure last night!  Tonight, I'm staying home! :-)
