I've had a really great day today! I mean, most days are good days... I don't really have bad days. But today was just a cut above the norm!
Robby was up and ready to play at 7:30 (as opposed to his normal 6-6:30), and I felt rested enough to actually be awake and functional! It was such a beautiful morning that I opened up the curtains and blinds and let that yummy fresh air circulate through the house. Our house, which, by the way... was completely clean! I love waking up to a clean house-- there are very few things that have the ability to start me off on the right foot as well as a clean house when I wake up. Megan slept in a little bit, and popped in on me while I was showering and said, "Good morning, Mommy! Did you have a great sleep?" Then she got me a towel and offered to help me out of the shower.
I had an appointment at 11 which I had been dreading; our semi-annual reapplication for the kid's county health insurance. We have to go in and show them all our money and assets and things to make sure we still qualify. I was worried we would no longer qualify because we had been able to build up a substantially higher amount of savings than the last time we went in. Also, the appointments usually start late, take place in an unsavory neighborhood, and generally I have to take the kids with me. But this time our wonderful and awesome new neighbor Beth was good enough to come sit with the kids so I didn't have to take them. So when my case worker was late (as per usual), I actually enjoyed it because I was having some me-time with a good book! And, as it turned out all my worries were unnecessary because we still qualified for everything we had before! Sooo nice!
I came home from that to find Mike back from his preceptorshipping thing at the med school (which was why he wasn't the one watching the chubren), and in a fantastic mood because he had received some encouraging words from a classmate about her Step 2 experience.
Later this afternoon, Mike called to get his on-post housing set up for his rotation at BAMC in san antonio. They told him they were fully booked, and so he got a non-availability number... which means he gets to stay in a nice hotel suite somewhere off base (and they will reimburse him for it), and that they will give him $50/day food allowance that he wouldn't have received had he been housed on post. That amounts to $1500 over the course of his rotation there! As you can probably guess, we'll be pocketing the bulk of that money!
The next fantastic thing today was that Robby took like a 2 1/2 hour nap this afternoon! He has never been a very good napper. He usually sleeps for less than an hour for each of his two naps. So, this was AWESOME! I laid down and had a nap while Megan had some quiet time and Mike took some practice tests (which he was doing great on!).
Megan and Robby were good as I prepared dinner (see the next post for the recipe!), and got straight in the bath after dinner. After her bath, Megan climbed into bed and said she was ready to go to sleep! So I got both kids washed up and into bed by 7:15! AMAZING! As I type this, it is 8:00, and both are asleep. Whew!
I guess you know you are a boring old grown-up when the type of things that make you have a great day include naps and clean floors. Oh, well! I like that it doesn't take much to make me have an awesome day! It is good days like this that make me feel so overwhelmingly blessed and think, "what have I ever done to deserve so many blessings?" I don't really feel like I have done enough for the Lord to give me so much, but I'm not complaining that he has!
I found myself taking a ton of pictures today because we were just all so happy! So, here are some pictures from the day.
Breakfast is served! Robby scavenging for crumbs in his exersaucer.
Megan has tucked herself into bed after the bath!
Siblings wishing each other a good night!
Megan helping out in the kitchen. I know it is sideways... I'm too lazy to flip it. But her pants and shirt were on backwards, so I think it matches.
If this look says to you, "What am I eating?!?" then you have read it correctly.

Yay for good days. Don't those little moments make all the other things moms have to deal with, totally worth it?!
