riday was our 5th wedding anniversary, and also the last day of Mike's Anesthesiology rotation! Double woo-hoo! Now he's taking July to study for Step 2 of the medical licensing exam (which he's taking July 24th).
As a gift for our anniversary, we bought ourselves a filthy-filter (actually, it's called Clearplay, but I think filthy-filter is funnier) DVD player, with monthly membership to download movie filters. But just our luck, we just found out they've been back ordered and haven't even shipped it yet, even though we ordered it 2-1/2 weeks ago... so I'll have to report on that later to say how much we like it. Also for our anniversary, Mike got me a lovely heart pendant necklace. He is very proud of himself, and I love it, too! Since my birthday was the next day, we combined our celebration into one on my birthday. Mike planned it all out and kept it a surprise for me-- he even lined up the babysitting! What a good boy! We went out for dinner at Sergio's Sarava in Shaker Square, which is a brazilian place. Mike enjoyed it very much and said it was highly authentic food. I liked it too! I had the key lime chicken, and Mike had something I can't pronounce that was basically a big old pile of meat. After dinner we went to see Wall-e, the new pixar movie. It was also highly enjoyable! Megan and Mike got me a cake
(which I didin't take a picture of until after we cut into it... oh, well!), and they got me two boxed-set Sherlock Holmes DVDs (The adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and the Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. Starring Jeremy Brett, of COURSE). Megan was very excited that it was my birthday, and kept telling me "Happy Birthday, Mommy!" All day. She kept stealing my pop-up cake card that my mom sent (bottom left in the picture), and singing happy birthday to me, then having me "blow out" the candles. I also got some birthday bl$ng to put towards a kitchen cart (which I promptly ordered from IKEA the second I got my birthday money).
Hoorah! I am so done with keeping my microwave on a card table in the corner. The kitchen cart will go a long way towards making me not feel like my kitchen is a hobo-kitchen.
So, we had a fun-filled weekend with lots of cake! Here is Megan enjoying some of it:
She had about 6 pieces of cake on Saturday... but most of the cake ended up on the floor under her picnic table. Which she then ate on Sunday. Whoops-- I should've swept.

I knew the card would be popular among the young folk.
Oh! Bring Sherlock to Washington. I promise not to fall asleep this time!
